The institute began operating as a professional body in 1978, and the Ghana Institute of Taxation was incorporated as a limited company on 2 May 1980. They are listed on the stock index of the Ghana Stock Exchange, the GSE All-Share Index. Operating since 1896, it is one of the oldest companies in Ghana.
