Edward Harvie Ward, Jr. (December 8, 1925 – September 4, 2004) was an American golfer best known for his amateur career. He is best known for winning both the U.S. Amateur (twice) and the British Amateur. Born in Tarboro, North Carolina, Ward attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Lowery was the fifth child born to John and Maria Lowery (née Curran), who were Irish immigrants who lived in Newton, Massachusetts. [3] He moved to San Francisco, California, and championed the rising amateur careers of Ken Venturi (1964 U.S. Open Champion), Harvie Ward (1955 & 1956 U.S. Amateur Champion), and Tony Lema (1964 British Open Champion), among others.
White was described as being the best amateur golfer during the late 1940s and early 1950s. He announced his retirement from international golf in September 1955 after having lost a singles cup match to American Harvie Ward in May 1955.
