Erie J. Sauder (August 6, 1904 – June 29, 1997) was an American inventor and furniture-maker. He invented a knock-down table in 1951 [ 2 ] [ 3 ] and founded a company that produced ready-to-assemble furniture—one of the largest in the United States at the time of his death.
Through the 1990s, the company expanded and moved all production and administration to a modern facility built in Orleans, Indiana. In 1999, Paoli, Inc. purchased Whitehall Furniture, an established manufacturer of quality seating. In 2004, Paoli, Inc. was acquired by HNI Corporation, the second-largest office furniture manufacturer. [4]
