Sparrows Point in 2021. Sparrows Point is an industrial area in unincorporated Baltimore County, Maryland, United States, adjacent to Edgemere.Named after Thomas Sparrow, landowner, it was the site of a very large industrial complex owned by Bethlehem Steel, known for steelmaking and shipbuilding.
George Price Whitaker and his descendants continued to be involved in the iron and steel business; their holdings became part of the Wheeling Steel Company in 1921, and eventually of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. [4] The site produced iron until 1925. In 1972, Principio Furnace was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [1]
