Robert Allen Palmer (19 January 1949 – 26 September 2003) was an English singer and songwriter. He was known for his powerful and soulful voice, his sartorial elegance, and his stylistic explorations, combining soul , funk , jazz , rock , pop , reggae , and blues .

In 1950 Palmer published A History of the Modern World, which is in its eleventh edition as of 2013.(Joel Colton is a co-author from 1956 [3] the 2nd edition, and Lloyd Kramer is coauthor from 2002, the 9th ed.) [4] The text has been translated into six languages and is used in more than 1000 colleges and many AP European History high school courses. [5]
