The Brunswick Boat Group is an American pleasure boat manufacturer. Headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee , United States , it is the largest maker of such craft in the world. Net sales were US$ 1.7 billion in 2008, [ 2 ] and US$ 1.0 billion in 2012.
Maxum was a subsidiary of the Brunswick Boat Group, a division of the Brunswick Corporation, which manufactured recreational boats. One manufacturing plant was in Pipestone, Minnesota . This facility was established in the 1970s with 300 plus employees and produced the Maxum runabouts .

The company was founded by Forest City, Iowa businessman John K. Hanson in February 1958. At the time, the town, located in Winnebago County, Iowa, was undergoing an economic downturn, so Hanson and a group of community leaders convinced a California firm, Modernistic Industries, to open a travel trailer factory in a bid to revive the local economy.
