Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (/ ˈ h ɒ ɡ w ɔːr t s /) is a fictional boarding school of magic for young wizards. It is the primary setting for the first six novels in the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling , and also serves as a major setting in the Wizarding World media franchise.
A house-elf named Kreacher inhabits the house. In Half-Blood Prince , Harry learns that he has inherited the property from his deceased godfather Sirius Black, and he donates it to the Order. In Deathly Hallows , Grimmauld Place becomes a sanctuary for Harry, Ron, and Hermione while they are hiding from Voldemort.
At the end of the summer, Harry boards the Hogwarts Express, where he befriends Ron Weasley and meets Hermione Granger. When he arrives at Hogwarts, he is assigned to Gryffindor House by the Sorting Hat. During the school year, he receives guidance from the Transfiguration professor Minerva McGonagall and the headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
