I'm thinking of suggesting to the vet that we try Zyrtec, or the generic Cetirizine, but first wanted to ask if anyone has experience using Zyrtec (length of use, dosage, frequency, etc.). I can not find anything negative regarding Zyrtec treatment in cats. If anyone knows of info, yeah or nay, please share it.
Cetirizine (Zyrtec®) for Dogs and Cats. Cetirizine is one type of antihistamine referred to as a second generation h1 receptor blocker that inhibits the action of histamine, particularly its effect on H1 receptors. This results in a reduction or prevention of swelling and itchiness. Cetirizine has little to no effect on heart rate or stomach ...
Mar 14, 2014. Messages. 2,171. Purraise. 1,213. He had started out with a very bad upper respiratory infection and was given clavamox, then a week later not much improvement, then orbax for two weeks, that helped very much but he was still stuffy and not quite well. Then today, zyrtec. Mar 24, 2015. #7.
Sorry I'm late to the post but I found the best way to give my cat Zyrtec! First I cut the 5mg dose into 4 tiny pieces. Then I use Churu packets to feed them to her. I put a tiny plop of Churu on the back of my hand, put one of the Zyrtec pieces in there, then cover it with another small plop of Churu. She eats it right up and always eats the ...
Zyrtec (cetirizine) is well tolerated in both children and adults. Here’s a review on it, but I think you’re safe to trust your child’s doctors on the risk benefit analysis. Anecdotally, I have been taking it since I was 6 off and on with no side effects (I am old, so it was prescription only back in the day for me lol).
Grind the pill dose into a VERY FINE powder. It has to be very, very fine or the chunks might get stuck in the syringe tip. Mix the powdered pill (s) with a small amount (1-2 cc) of your chosen liquid... only 1 cc of Pet-Tinic if that's what you're using... to a consistency that flows easily through the syringe tip.
1. Purraise. 1. I crush half of a 10mg Zyrtec and mix it with hairball stuff and then smear little bits on the tops of her paws (little bits because she shakes her paws and I've learned the hard way, that stuff is NOT easy to clean up! Especially from the carpet. [emoji]128533 [/emoji]) That seems to work well for us.
Medications like Zyrtec, Allegra, and Claritin work best if taking continually and consistently, not just when you feel rough. I have had docs suggest I start taking them 2-3 weeks before pollen season. 12 hour is superior to 24 hour. For me, with my laundry list of allergies, 12 hr wears off about 11.5 hours in.
Appropriate Zyrtec dosage for cats? Advice. My new cat has shown allergic symptoms (scratching, over-grooming) and has tested negative for fleas and mites. My vet thinks he is allergic to something in his diet so he is back on the food he ate when I rescued him in January. I would like to give him an antihistamine to help with symptoms while we ...
Most cats don't experience any side effects from the use of Metacam, however, as with any drug, some do. In a field study conducted by the manufacturer, 8.3% of the cats experienced elevated levels of kidney functions in blood tests. 12.5% of the cats experienced post-treatment anemia (compared with 6.3% in the control group).
