Duval County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 9,831. [ 1 ][ 2 ] The county seat is San Diego. [ 3 ] The county was founded in 1858 and later organized in 1876. [ 4 ] It is named for Burr H. Duval, a soldier in the Texas Revolution who died in the Goliad Massacre.
1954–? Notes. [2][3][4] George Berham Parr (March 1, 1901 – April 1, 1975) was an American politician, who controlled a Democratic political machine that dominated Duval County, Texas and, to a lesser extent, Jim Wells County. He was known as "The Duke of Duval," like his father before him.
Registrants provided their own license plates for display, with serial numbers assigned by their county of residence, until the state began to issue plates in 1917. [1] As of 2024, plates are manufactured at the Wynne Unit in Huntsville, Texas, and are issued by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). [2]

Florida used numeric county codes on its license plates between 1938 and 1977, with the order of the codes based on the populations of each of the state's 67 counties according to a 1935 census.
