Henry Ward Ranger was born on January 29, 1858, in New York State.His mother was Martha Marie, and his father Ward Valencourt Ranger. He was born in the rural western part of New York State, most likely in Geneseo and grew up in Syracuse, where his father worked as a commercial photographer, but his father also had some artistic training and later taught drawing.

William Westall (1803) Chasm Island, native cave painting, 1803, watercolour. Within the island's rock shelters, they discovered an array of painted and stenciled patterns and Flinders enlisted Westall to record these images. In his journal, Flinders not only detailed the location and the artworks but also authored the inaugural site report:

Bierstadt traveled to the Colorado Rocky Mountains where he was taken up to the Chicago Lakes beneath Mount Blue Sky .

Albrecht Altdorfer produced the very first pure landscapes in the history of European art. [1] Only five surviving landscape paintings are generally accepted to have been painted by Altdorfer. [2] Two of them, one in Munich (30.5 × 22.2 cm) and one in London (41.2 × 35.5 cm), were painted in oils on parchment glued on wood.
