Bhediya (pronounced [ˈbʱeːɽɪjɑː]; transl. Wolf) is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language comedy horror film directed by Amar Kaushik. Produced by Dinesh Vijan from a story and screenplay by Niren Bhatt , it stars Varun Dhawan alongside Kriti Sanon , Abhishek Banerjee , Deepak Dobriyal and Paalin Kabak.
All films in this universe are based on Indian folklore. [1] The first installment, Stree, was released as a standalone film. The universe-building began with Bhediya, in which characters from Stree appeared. This was followed by Munjya, where characters from Bhediya and Stree appeared.
They also have their own film universe called the Maddock Supernatural Universe which consists of horror comedies like Stree (2018), Stree 2 (2024), Bhediya (2022) and Munjya (2024). The franchise has been commercially successful, having grossed a combined ₹1,186 crore against a combined budget of ₹235 crore. [ 1 ]
He was born in Kanpur city in the state of Uttar Pradesh in a Gaur Brahmin family. [1] Amar Kaushik grew up in Medo, Arunachal Pradesh [2] where his father was a forest ranger who worked for the Indian Forest Service and his mother Shashi was a school teacher. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. [3]
