Hofman started out with a burger stand on the beach in the 1940s at 5th Place in Long Beach serving "Hofburgers" for 15 cents. [3] The first Hof's Hut opened on September 16, 1951, in Belmont Shore by Harold Hofman, the same day his son and current owner Craig Hofman was born.
GGHS grew with the post-World War II boom and by the 1960s, it was joined by six other high schools in what is now the Garden Grove Unified School District. In the 2004–2005 and 2018-2019 school years, Garden Grove High School was named a California Distinguished School. [4]
It was formed in July 1965 from the merger of three districts: the Garden Grove Elementary School District (established 1875 [5]), the Alamitos School District (1880s) and the Garden Grove Union High School District (1921). In 2004, the district received the Broad Prize for Urban Education. Twice before, it had been a Broad Prize finalist. [6]
