The World at War is a staple of history teachers across Britain. It breaks the war down into different episodes that cover a particular theatre (e.g. Battle of the Atlantic) or a particular battle (Fall of France, Dunkirk evacuation) in a vaguely chronological order which I nevertheless personally find to be a very comprehensive way to follow overall

It really does well to show the multiple perspectives on the conflict, which I think is the great weakness of most modern documentaries (especially US made documentaries). By far its best asset is the inclusion of so many high-ranking German and British military and political officials - people that were in the room with Hitler/Churchill during ...

I've posted a lot of history documentaries, both here and on r/documentaries, and people seem genuinely interested in where exactly I find these. We live in a time where people can make a living at conducting research for and making high quality, and usually pretty succinct, history documentaries on Youtube.

What’s with the blurred out censorship of documentary features on youtube? I’m watching a number of WW2 documentaries from very legitimate sources and the screen will have blurred out so much of the story as to make it difficult to follow.

Greatest Events of WW2 (Netflix) : Detailed coverage of 10 major events which shaped the course of WW2. Its rather focused on other Nazi leaders like Gorring, Himmler and Goebbels.

  8. The Best WWII Documentary you've never seen. - Reddit

As I understand it, the youtube upload source was a direct rip from the 4OD streams, but you can see the resolution is sort of in between 240p and 360p, so youtube chose the lower of the two. The Region 2 DVD release (which I purchased and own) is higher resolution, but the bastards cropped the sides off for a 4:3 presentation.

Another great documentary that manages to get interviews from historic figures is "the World at War", it set the bar for most WW2 documentaries. It was made in 1973, so they actually could interview the members of the Nazi government that were still alive, such as Albert Speer (Hitler's architect and armaments minister) and Karl Doenitz (Hitler ...
