South Louisville is a neighborhood two miles south of downtown Louisville, Kentucky, US. ("South Louisville" or "South Side" is also used to describe the entire portion of Southern Louisville.) The area was incorporated as a city in 1886. The city of Louisville fought to annex the area and did so, after a three-year lawsuit, in 1898.
The district, or a portion of it, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as West Main Street Historic District, due to its containment of some of the oldest structures in the city.
