Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a colourless organic thermoplastic polymer in the polyaryletherketone (PAEK) family, used in engineering applications. It was invented in November 1978 [2] and brought to market in the early 1980s by part of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), the PEEK division was acquired through a management buyout, giving rise to Victrex PLC.
Polyetherketones (PEK for short) are polymers whose molecular backbone contain alternating ketone (R-CO-R) and Ether (R-O-R) functionalities. The most common are Polyaryletherketones (PAEK), in which there is an aryl group linked in the (1–4)-position between each of the functional groups.
It has wide dental and medical applications. The parts are claimed to be as strong as aluminum while being 40 percent of the weight. In addition, PEKK manufactured components have shown fire and radiation resistant properties. [3] Oxford Performance Materials manufactures Biomedical 3D printing of PEKK parts. [4]
Implants preserve the integrity of the teeth adjacent to the edentulous area, and it has been shown that dental implant therapy is less costly and more efficient over time than tooth-supported FPDs for the replacement of one missing tooth. The major disadvantage of dental implant surgery is the need for a surgical procedure. [17]
Technique depicted in 3D video This image shows how Nobel Biocare's All-on-4 solution works. The term All-on-4, also known as All-on-Four [1] and All-in-Four, [2] refers to 'all' teeth being supported 'on four' dental implants, a prosthodontics procedure [3] [4] for total rehabilitation of the edentulous (toothless) patient, or for patients with badly broken down teeth, decayed teeth, or ...
The source said the implants are "experimental dentistry to say the least" and were designed "entirely by Ye with the assistance of medical and dental experts including Dr. Connelly."
