Buckinghamshire (/ ˈ b ʌ k ɪ ŋ ə m ʃ ər,-ʃ ɪər /, abbreviated Bucks) [3] is a ceremonial county in South East England and one of the home counties.It is bordered by Northamptonshire to the north, Bedfordshire to the north-east, Hertfordshire to the east, Greater London to the south-east, Berkshire to the south, and Oxfordshire to the west.

In 1971, Buckinghamshire County Council set up the Buckingham Development Company with other local councils, and undertook a significant project to grow the town and provide a bypass, mainly to the south and east of the historic town centre. The population rose from just over 5,000 to 9,309 in 1991.
For the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, which redrew the constituency map ahead of the 2024 United Kingdom general election, the Boundary Commission for England proposed that the number of seats in the combined area of Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes be increased from seven to eight with the creation of a new cross-authority constituency named Buckingham and Bletchley.
