Polystyrene sulfonic acid, the acid whose salts are the polystyrene sulfonates, has the idealized formula (CH 2 CHC 6 H 4 SO 3 H) n. The material is prepared by sulfonation of polystyrene: (CH 2 CHC 6 H 5) n + n SO 3 → (CH 2 CHC 6 H 4 SO 3 H) n. Several methods exist for this conversion, which can lead to varying degree of sulfonation.

Scoop 3 was re-issued on 29 August 2006 on the SPV label. In 2002 a pared-down compilation of all the Scoop albums ( Scoop , Another Scoop and Scoop 3) was released as Scooped . Remastered versions of the original albums were released in 2006.
The album was the first in a series of three Scoop collections: Another Scoop was released in 1987 and Scoop 3 in 2001. All three albums were 2-disc sets, and in 2002 a pared-down compilation of them all was released as Scooped. Remastered versions of the original albums were released in 2006, and again in 2017.
The active ingredient in Kaopectate has changed since its original creation. Originally, kaolinite was used as the adsorbent and pectin as the emollient. Attapulgite (a type of absorbent clay) replaced the kaolinite in the 1980s, but was banned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in a ruling made in April 2003.
