A key concept in Netflix's cyberpunk series Altered Carbon is the 'stack', an advanced hard drive installed on the brainstem on which a person can save a copy of their consciousness. The main effect of stack technology is a form of immortality, because a stack can be installed into another body if the original body dies.
Altered Carbon is a 2002 British cyberpunk novel by the English writer Richard K. Morgan.Set in a future in which interstellar travel and relative immortality is facilitated by transferring consciousnesses between bodies ("sleeves"), it follows the attempt of Takeshi Kovacs, a former U.N. elite soldier turned private investigator, to investigate a rich man's death.
In the Netflix series Altered Carbon, Kovacs is portrayed by Joel Kinnaman (in the body of Elias Ryker) in the show's first season, [10] Will Yun Lee (original body), [11] Byron Mann (Takeshi's prior body), [12] and Morgan Gao (Young Tak). Altered Carbon: Resleeved (Japanese: オルタード・カーボン：リスリーブド) is a 2020 Japanese animated film that is a spin-off of Netflix's Altered Carbon television series. The film is directed by Jō Nakajima [ 1 ] and written by Dai Satō and Tsukasa Kondo. [ 2 ]
In 2018 he starred as Laurens Bancroft in Altered Carbon, a Netflix original series. In February 2019, Hybrid (who provided the score to Interlude in Prague) released a short film to accompany their single "Hold Your Breath" from the album Light of the Fearless. The film starred Purefoy as the brooding "Mr Black".
