The 2022–23 season was the 52nd in the history of the Essex Senior Football League, a football competition in England. The proposed constitution for this season was published on 15 May 2022, [ 1 ] based on allocations for Steps 5 and 6 announced by the FA three days earlier, and was subject to appeals.
The club was founded in 2015 as a youth team, then known as Lopes Tavares London, before moving into adult football the following season, joining the Premier Division of the Essex Alliance Football League. [1]
They joined the Essex Senior League in 1976 and changed their name to Sawbridgeworth Town. They achieved their best FA Vase performance in 1980–81 when they reached a third round replay. Sawbridgeworth finished runners-up in the league in 1992–93 and 1994–95.
The club then achieved a second consecutive promotion during the 2023–24 season following a 3–1 win over Romford in the Essex Senior League playoff finals. This resulted in Sporting Bengal achieving step 4 status for the first time in its history. In the 2024–25 season, the team play in the Isthmian League North Division.
