Cheating in video games involves a video game player using various methods to create an advantage beyond normal gameplay, usually in order to make the game easier.Cheats may be activated from within the game itself (a cheat code implemented by the original game developers), or created by third-party software (a game trainer or debugger) or hardware (a cheat cartridge).
Cheat Engine (CE) is a proprietary, closed source [5] [6] memory scanner/debugger created by Eric Heijnen ("Byte, Darke") for the Windows operating system in 2000. [7] [8] Cheat Engine is mostly used for cheating in computer games and is sometimes modified and recompiled to support new games.
The engine is currently in use by Overkill Software, former owners of the now defunct developer Grin. Overkill's game, Payday: The Heist, uses a modified version of this engine. Payday 2 and Raid: World War II run on the second generation Diesel engine 2.0.
Following Payday 2, Overkill's game was planned to follow similar approaches as Payday, a four-player cooperative experience set in a persistently-changing world. [2] The game was initially developed on the Diesel engine, the same engine that had been used on several Grin titles.
