The Kingsmen are a 1960s American rock band from Portland, Oregon.They are best known for their 1963 recording of R&B singer Richard Berry's "Louie Louie", which held the No. 2 spot on the Billboard charts for six weeks and has become an enduring classic.
"Louie Louie" is a rhythm and blues song written and composed by American musician Richard Berry in 1955, recorded in 1956, and released in 1957. It is best known for the 1963 hit version by the Kingsmen and has become a standard in pop and rock.
The Kingsmen, who achieved national prominence with their smash Wand single of "Louie, Louie," tag this their premiere album after the hit and include eleven other rousing teen-angled dance-able items. The crew really swings up a storm as they dish-up winning renditions of "Money," "Mashed Potatoes" and "Mojo Workout."
The Kingsmen became the club's house band and Ken Chase became the band's manager. Ely was begging Chase to let the band record their own version of "Louie Louie", and on April 5, 1963, Chase booked the band an hour-long session at the local Northwestern Inc. studio for the following day. [14]
The Kingsmen released Volume II (subtitled "More Great Sounds From The Group That Gave You "Louie, Louie") to capitalize on the continued success of "Louie Louie" and recent hits "Little Latin Lupe Lu" (#46) and "Death Of An Angel" (#42). As with the first album, crowd noise overdubs were added to simulate a live performance.

The Kingsmen's fifth album was an amalgam containing seven new songs, one previously released single, four alternate versions of previously released songs, and three tracks from earlier LPs. The album entered the Billboard LP chart on August 20, 1966, and remained for eight weeks, peaking at #87. [ 1 ]
