Pigeon Lake Provincial Park is a provincial park located in central Alberta, Canada, within the County of Wetaskiwin No. 10. The park is located on the southwestern shore of Pigeon Lake . It was established on August 16, 1973.

It has a catchment area of 187 km 2 (72 sq mi), [1] and is an early tributary of the Battle River, to which it is connected through the Pigeon Lake Creek. Pigeon Lake was previously called "Woodpecker Lake". The name was changed to Pigeon Lake in 1858. In 1896, Pigeon Lake Indian Reserve was established on the southeast shore.
As of 2016, the province of Alberta managed 76 provincial parks, 32 wildland provincial parks, 208 provincial recreation areas, 15 ecological reserves, 3 wilderness areas, 139 natural areas and 2 heritage rangeland. [3]
Ma-Me-O Beach, Alberta, is a summer village on the southeast shore of Pigeon Lake, in Alberta, Canada. It is located approximately 100 km (60 mi) southwest of Edmonton. Ma-Me-O derives from the Cree word for "pigeon", omîmîw (ᐅᒦᒦᐤ). [3] It was founded in 1924. [4]
Camping is offered year round, with 103 unit campground and 55 electrical hook-ups, [3] including three paved and powered camp sites with washrooms and showers. A day use area with fire pits, picnic tables and basic facilities is maintained on the lake shore. A hand-launch boat dock is maintained on the northern side of the park.
The park has modern camping facilities, with amenities for boating, swimming, and picnic. Water activities on Sturgeon Lake include canoeing, kayaking, fishing, ice fishing, power boating, water skiing, windsurfing, and swimming. 20 km of trails are maintained for front country hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing in winter.
Various campgrounds are maintained on the shores of Gregg Lake, Cache Lake, Blue Lake and Jarvis Lake. This park is situated within the foothills of Alberta's Rocky Mountains , at an elevation of 1,150 m (3,770 ft) to 1,300 m (4,300 ft) and has a surface of 93 km 2 (36 sq mi).
