A rotary union is a union that allows for rotation of the united parts. It is thus a device that provides a seal between a stationary supply passage (such as pipe or tubing) and a rotating part (such as a drum, cylinder, or spindle ) to permit the flow of a fluid into and/or out of the rotating part.
Rotary transformers are often used instead of slip rings in high-speed or low-friction environments. [3] A slip ring can be used within a rotary union to function concurrently with the device, commonly referred to as a rotary joint. Slip rings do the same for electrical power and signal that rotary unions do for fluid media.
Rotary joint may refer to: Coupling , a mechanical device used to connect two shafts together at their ends for the purpose of transmitting power, including flexible couplings Rotary union , a coupling for passing fluid through a rotating joint
A union also connects two pipes but is quite different from a coupling, as it allows future disconnection of the pipes for maintenance. In contrast to a coupling requiring solvent welding, soldering, or rotation (for threaded couplings), a union allows easy connection and disconnection multiple times if needed. It consists of three parts: a nut ...
Operational rotary snowplow Xrotd 9213 on the Rhaetian Railway in Switzerland. A rotary snowplow (American English) or rotary snowplough is a piece of railroad snow removal equipment with a large circular set of blades on its front end that rotate to cut through the snow on the track ahead of it. The precursor to the rotary snowplow was the ...
