Hidetsugu Yagi (八木 秀次, Yagi Hidetsugu, January 28, 1886 – January 19, 1976) was a Japanese electrical engineer from Osaka, Japan. When working at Tohoku Imperial University , he wrote several articles that introduced a new antenna designed by his assistant Shintaro Uda to the English-speaking world.
The Yagi-Uda antenna was invented in 1926 by Shintaro Uda of Tohoku Imperial University, Sendai, Japan, with the collaboration of Hidetsugu Yagi, also of Tohoku Imperial University. Yagi published the first English-language reference on the antenna in a 1928 survey article on short wave research in Japan and it came to be associated with his name.
The Yamato-Yagi Station is a large Kintetsu train station serving Yagi, with express lines to downtown Osaka (40 minutes), Kyoto (1 hour) and Nara city (20 minutes). A large percentage of Yagi's population work in these neighboring cities. Yagi has a considerable foreign population made up of English language teachers and Peruvian factory workers.

The Japanese military authorities first became aware of this technology after the Battle of Singapore when they captured the notes of a British radar technician that mentioned "yagi antenna". Japanese intelligence officers did not even recognise that Yagi was a Japanese name in this context.
