Lake County Sheriff's House and Jail, also known as the Sheriff's House, is a historic jail and residence located at 226 South Main Street in Crown Point, Lake County, Indiana, United States. It was built in 1882, and is a two-story, Second Empire style brick building. It has a three-story projecting tower and a mansard roof.
The Lake County Courthouse and Sheriff's Residence, located at 601 3rd Avenue in Two Harbors, Lake County in the U.S. state of Minnesota was built in 1906. In 1888 a two-story brick sheriff's residence and jail was erected with an adjacent Queen Anne style courthouse. A 1904 fire destroyed the courthouse, but the jail and residence remained.
The modern Lake County Jail opened in 1975 in a five-floor facility with 286 beds. In 1991, capacity was increased to 460 beds and additions in 2000 provided for a total of 1,085 beds. [ 16 ] A Special Operations Response Team (SORT) is utilized in controlling inmate disturbances and restoring order in emergency situations.

The Lake County Regional Correctional Facility (now called Site 2 within the complex) opened in Tiptonville in 1981, with a capacity of 500 inmates. [4] The Northwest Corrections Center opened on the site in 1992 and is called Site 1.
