Byers Independent School District was a public school district based in Byers, Texas . In May 2012, the district's voters and those of the neighboring Petrolia Independent School District voted to consolidate the two districts, with Petrolia remaining the surviving district after the merger. [1] The merger took effect May 25, 2012. [2]

The 2020 United States census counted 38 people, 15 households, and 11 families in Byers. [7] [8] The population density was 224.9 per square mile (86.8/km 2).There were 18 housing units at an average density of 106.5 per square mile (41.1/km 2).
The district's high school opened in 2011, and is a 3A school as of the 2020-2021 enrollment year, and serves 1,290 students in grades Pre-K through 12th. LISD contains 98 square miles; with the addition of a new Elementary building, and new Gymnasium wing completed in mid 2020. School mascot is a Pirate.
The following day, DSST appealed the decision and in November 2020, the State Board of Education granted the appeal to open a high school instead at the Elevate campus, opening the door for Noel middle school students to continue locally at a DSST campus. [13] [14] Following the appeal win, DSST opened the Elevate Northeast campus in 2021.
