Lighthouse Family were a British pop soul [1] duo that rose to prominence in the mid-1990s and initially remained active until the early 2000s. Singer Tunde Baiyewu and songwriter Paul Tucker formed the act in 1993 in Newcastle upon Tyne , England , after meeting while studying at university and both working at the same bar.
Emmanuel Babatunde Baiyewu (born 25 November 1968 [1]), better known as Tunde Baiyewu, is a British singer and songwriter of Nigerian descent, best known as the vocalist of Lighthouse Family. When the group went on hiatus in 2003, Baiyewu embarked on a solo career, releasing the albums Tunde (2004) and Diamond in a Rock (2013). [2] [3]
He reunited with many Lighthouse alumni in September, 1982 for a weekend of four concerts at Ontario Place, which drew 33,000 people; at the end of the weekend the musicians went their separate ways. The band got together again in 1992 with a ten-member line-up, which included the founding members Prokop, Hoffert and Cole, with McBride on vocals.
