The Symmes Purchase, also known as the Miami Purchase, was an area of land totaling roughly 311,682 acres (487.003 sq mi; 1,261.33 km 2) [1] in what is now Hamilton, Butler, and Warren counties of southwestern Ohio, purchased by Judge John Cleves Symmes of New Jersey in 1788 from the Continental Congress.
Located southwest of Cleves in Hamilton County's Miami Township, [2] the district is composed of forty-six archaeological sites spread out over an area of 2,000 acres (810 ha). [1] Thirty-four of these sites are located in the 1,000-acre (400 ha) Shawnee Lookout Park , which has been called one of the most beautiful parks in southwestern Ohio.
Cleves is located between the Great Miami River and the Ohio River. It is separated from the Ohio River by the village of North Bend, along the southern border of Cleves. U.S. Route 50 passes through the village, leading east 16 miles (26 km) to downtown Cincinnati and west to Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
The Conrad Mound Archeological Site is an archaeological site in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. Located east of Cleves in Hamilton County, [3] the site is centered on an isolated Native American mound. Its location atop a ridgeline has been interpreted as evidence that the mound was constructed by the Adena culture.
