St Joseph's Catholic School is an independent Roman Catholic co-educational primary school, located in the Townsville suburb of Mundingburra, Queensland, Australia. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] It is administered by the Queensland Catholic Education Commission , with an enrolment of 360 students and a teaching staff of 29, as of 2023. [ 3 ]
It was originally established as two sister institutions, St. Mary's Primary School and St. Anne's Primary School, which in 1985 were amalgamated to form St. Joseph's.The school is currently situated at Howe Street, Freetown, in the same compound that used to house its secondary school, now known as St. Joseph's Secondary School and formerly known as St. Joseph's Convent in Freetown.
The school continues to grow, with a recent Middle school extension, adding two more floors in the Middle School wing. In 2023, St. Joseph's announced a $3 million campus expansion that would include multiple classrooms and space for the learning environment. The groundbreaking for this expansion occurred on May 1, 2024.
St. Joseph School of San Jose City, N.E., Inc. is a Catholic institution of learning. It was founded in 1946 by the Reverend Theodore Keat, MSC, then the parish priest of San Jose, Nueva Ecija. The school was announced in May 1951, under the name St Joseph's Convent and was to be an all-boys school. [3] The permit was granted in June 1951, [4] and the foundation stone was laid on 16 March 1952. [5] Despite the weather on 16 March, many still attended the laying of the foundation stone. [6]
The school is coeducational as of September 2018. As of September 2018, the lower school (Years 7-9) is based at the old St Joseph's site and the upper school (Years 10-13) is based at the old St Bede's site. The school has a coeducational sixth form, St Benedict's Sixth Form. All sixth form students are currently based at the old St Bede's site.
St Joseph's was opened in 1958 as St Joseph's Catholic Secondary Modern School. Headmaster - Mr Martin Cleary. In 1972 St Joseph's became a Comprehensive High School.
