The park is in the high Sierra Nevada mountain range at an elevation of around 1,900 metres (6,200 ft). It is covered in mixed coniferous forest with tree species such as Jeffrey pine (Pinus jeffreyi), white fir (Abies concolor), Sierra lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta ssp. murrayana), California incense cedar (Calocedrus decurrens), sugar pine (Pinus lambertiana), and red fir (Abies magnifica). Springville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tulare County, California, United States.The population was 967 at the 2020 census, up from 934 at the 2010 census. The original name of the town was “Daunt”, after William Daunt, a settler who opened the first store in the town in 1860.
Recreational activities include backpacking, day-hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and nature photography. There are 15 trailheads all around the wilderness boundary with the most frequent users being hunters in the autumn months. Visitor use has one of the lowest densities among wilderness areas in California.
The brick building was built in 1912 by Charles Alonzo Elster, a significant businessman in the area. When it opened, the building contained several of Springville's main businesses, including its post office, a bank, a drugstore, the Odd Fellows hall, and the town's first telephone.
Rocky Hill Campground offers only non-electric sites, but has a boat launch ramp and a picnic area. Day-use Bartlett Park has picnic shelters and a playground. There are no designated beach areas, but informal swim areas are located nearby.
