The 2024–25 Liga Portugal (also known as Liga Portugal Betclic [1] for sponsorship reasons) is the 91st season of the Primeira Liga, the top professional league for Portuguese association football clubs and the fourth season under the current Liga Portugal title. This is the eighth Primeira Liga season to use video assistant referee (VAR).

The Portuguese football leagues are divided into divisions (divisões, singular – divisão). The top teams play in the Primeira Liga, named Liga NOS for sponsorship reasons. In each division, with rare exceptions, a team plays all other teams twice, once at home and once away.
Before the creation of the Primeira Liga, there was a competition called Championship of Portugal (Campeonato de Portugal), created in 1922 as the first competition of Portuguese football. However, despite its name, it corresponds to today's Portuguese Cup ( Taça de Portugal ) and was held in a knock-out basis.
The Championship of Portugal was turned into the Portuguese Cup, this time with all clubs in the nation (except for those in the colonies).The Premier League (a round-basis experimental league) was transformed into the National Championship of the First Division (Campeonato Nacional da Primeira Divisão), or just First Division (Primeira Divisão) with the major clubs.
The league was named Liga ZON Sagres until 2013–14 after the sponsorship agreement between Sagres, ZON (now NOS) and the league ended. In 2015, the league was named Liga NOS until the 2020–21 season.
