Panguitch Lake contains several campgrounds. Convenience stores and a Latter-day Saint chapel are within walking distance of the campgrounds, and the roads are well paved and maintained. Road access to the lake is provided by Utah State Route 143, also known as the Brian Head-Panguitch Lake Scenic Byway or Utah's Patchwork Parkway.
The site was originally developed in 1910 by Hezekiah Eastman Hatch (1855-1928), a prominent Logan, Utah businessman who built the first cabin there between 1915 and 1918. He built the cabin for his wife Georgia Thatcher Hatch, who enjoyed the cabin in her later years. After her death in 1919, their son Lorenzo Boyd Hatch took over the camp.
The Panguitch Historic District is a historic district that comprises the center of Panguitch, Utah, United States, that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It included 379 contributing buildings and two contributing objects .
Hatch is located in southwestern Garfield County, in the valley of the Sevier River near its headwaters. U.S. Route 89 passes through the town, leading north 15 miles (24 km) to Panguitch, the county seat, and south 26 miles (42 km) to Glendale.
The cabin was built in 1845 by Miles Goodyear at a location he called Fort Buenaventura. The fort also included a stockade, garden, and fruit trees. In 1847 the fort was sold to Mormon settlers, along with livestock and the surrounding area for $1,950 (equivalent to about $63,765 in 2023). [3]
