Queen Maud Land (Norwegian: Dronning Maud Land) [note 1] is a roughly 2.7-million-square-kilometre (1.0-million-square-mile) [5] region of Antarctica claimed by Norway as a dependent territory. [6] It borders the claimed British Antarctic Territory 20° west and the Australian Antarctic Territory 45° east .
English: Flag proposed by vexillologist James Dignan for the Norwegian Antarctic Territory, consisting of Bouvet Island, Queen Maud Land and Peter I Island. According to Dignan, its design was based off the state flag of Norway due to the research being funded by the state.
New Swabia (Norwegian and German: Neuschwabenland) was an area of Antarctica explored and briefly claimed by Nazi Germany within the Norwegian territorial claim of Queen Maud Land in early 1939. The region was named after the expedition's ship, Schwabenland , itself named after the German region of Swabia .

[2] Peter I Island is a volcanic island located 450 kilometres (280 mi) off the coast of Ellsworth Land of continental Antarctica. [3] Despite being unincorporated areas, neither Svalbard nor Jan Mayen is formally considered a dependency.
It is bounded by Queen Maud Land in the West and by the Ross Dependency in the East. The Australian Antarctic Territory is the largest of any claims to the continent, and covers nearly 5.9 million square kilometres. [ 3 ]
