Route 102 is an original Rhode Island route designation assigned in 1923. The original route extended beyond North Smithfield into the city of Woonsocket along Victory Highway and Great Road (modern Route 146A), then along South Main Street and Main Street to end at Route 122.

Ashaway (/ ˈ æ ʃ ə w eɪ /) is an unincorporated village and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Hopkinton, Rhode Island, United States. It is a principal village of Hopkinton, along with Hope Valley, although it is the smaller of the two. The population was 1,485 at the 2010 census.

In May 1939 A R (Bob) Foster entered one in the North West 200, but it flooded on the start line. At the 1939 Isle of Man TT two bikes, ridden by Walter Rusk and A R (Bob) Foster, were 11th and 13th in the Senior TT and the supercharged BMW 492cc Type 255 Kompressor of Georg Meier and Jock M West took the first two places.
The first event was the 350cc 1957 Junior TT race held on the Snaefell mountain course.The race was initially led by Bob McIntyre riding a Gilera motorcycle who beat the lap record for the Junior TT race from a standing start in 23 minutes and 14.2 seconds, an average speed of 97.42 mph and 42 seconds faster than the lap record set by Ray Amm in the 1954 Junior TT Race.
