The Toyota MR2 is a line of two-seater, mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports cars, manufactured in Japan and marketed globally by Toyota from 1984 until 2007 over three generations: W10 (1984–1989), W20 (1989–1999) and W30 (1999–2007). It is Japan's first rear mid-engined production car.
North American market cars had the 2.3-litre M-series "six" when they first went on sale in early 1972, but in August of that year this was replaced by the larger 2.6-litre 4M unit. Power, originally at 109 hp (81 kW), increased to 123 hp (92 kW). This was the only engine offered for the Mark II's next four years in the North American markets.

The Sard MC8-R was a modified and lengthened version of the Toyota MR2 (SW20) built for GT racing by Toyota's SARD (Sigma Advanced Research Development) works team.. SARD heavily modified the front half of the MR2s chassis and completely replaced the rear with a custom setup in order to fit a twin-turbo version of the 4.0-liter 1UZ-FE V8 producing 600 bhp (447 kW). Notes: Previous owner swapped original 1300 cc motor with a 1600 cc unit. Restored car taken to Ford Dagenham's heritage fleet prior to sale. Mike and Edd were presented with a 1:43-scale Minichamps diecast replica of the Escort 1.6 RS by the fleet's curator Colin.
The first product was the Roadster, which remained in the line-up until sold, along with the Berlinetta, to Yorkshire Kit Cars (YKC) in 1992. YKC kept them in production until the owner retired in 2006 and sold them on to Aquila Sports Cars Ltd. In the mid 1990s, the company was sold to Terry and Mark Matthews, who introduced the Hunter model.
