Map42892. •. IMO it's Xenogears by Yasunori Mitsuda. The original OST is mostly Celtic influenced world music and is beautifully composed. But even better to me is Creid, Mitsuda's acclaimed arranged soundtrack for Xenogears using a full studio and traditional Irish vocalists and instrumentation. Highly recommended.
just_call_me_ash. •. As complete soundtracks, most memorable for me personally are probably Mega Man 2 (sample: Flash Man) and Persona 5 (sample: Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There). It's amazing how often songs from these pop up in my head, especially with Mega Man being so many years later.
Ori and the Blind Forest Tracks 1-8 are some of my all-time favorites! Lost Elf and Thedas Love Theme from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Oblivion has a ton of classics. For sound effects there are a couple options. If you just need placeholders, or your game is leaning into the retro/8bit vibe, sfxr is a great, easy, free choice to procedurally generate a ton. Other than that, it’s mostly either get a microphone or go to a free sound website and grab some stuff other people have recorded.
10/10 in terms of video game ost creating an ambience + catchy tracks I think it would be Zelda ocarina of time with it's dungeons soundtracks. Hollow knight's music easily top 10 of all time. Deus Ex 1 and Unreal 1. Nier Automata, Nier Gestalt/Replicant, Death Stranding, Silent Hill 2 and Shadow of the Colossus.

Despite the controversy, DOOM Eternal no question. +1 for Nier Automata, the whole soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece. The one issue with it is you basically have to experience it in game because of the dynamic nature of the tracks, where instruments and layers are added depending on what is going on in game.
