Each one was produced at the Johnson factory in Peterborough. The powerheads are all Johnson red underneth their "original" Evinrude blue paint.

To determine if there is an issue with any engine, just google "xxxxx yyy outboard reliability" where xxxx is the Manufacturer and yyy is the HP/Model of the engine. Or, scan the appropriate area of the iBoats Outboard forum. If there is a serious problem the forum would be full of questions. You are in the Evinrude/Johnson forum.
Re: Mid to late 1960's Evinrude Fastwin 18,...are they good motors? the old 18's are great! grab it. It will do well on a boat rated for 25. In fact the old 33 was an 18 with a bigger carb, or so i was told. You don't need electric start on it either so bypass it and save some weight. Keep the 9.9. A guy can't have too many motors.
Of those which included Mercury, Mariner, Johnson, Force, and Honda. The Honda was a 4-stroke and everything else was 2 stroke. The Mercurys and Mariners Ranged from 70 to 150 hp, the single Force was a 40 hp and the Johnsons were 60 and 70 hp.

Hi All, I have an Evinrude outboard motor that is missing the model number plate. Unfortunately, I also do not know the exact horsepower - it is either a 9.5 or 9.9. The year may be 1973 but even that is uncertain. The only numbers that I can find stamped near the motor's transom mount are 3042 followed by 14268.
