Ridgway State Park is a state park located in Ouray County, Colorado, United States. [2] The park is 21 miles southeast of Montrose, 14 miles northeast of Ouray, 4 miles north of the town of Ridgway and 312 miles southwest of Denver. The wildlife consists of deer, mountain lions, coyotes, rabbits, and elk.
Black Rock Mountain State Park was established in 1952 and originally consisted of 1,000 acres (400 ha). Before the park was established, Rabun County native John V. Arrendale began assembling the area that would later become the park, making his first 70-acre (280,000 m 2 ) purchase in 1938.
The lodge was built in 1928 as Alice Bemis Taylor's summer retreat. [1]Designed by Jules Jacques Benoit Benedict, the summer home was similar to other mountain homes that he designed, using "native construction material", including ponderosa pine from Pikes Peak's western slope, and displaying "the finest craftsmanship."
