The Hollow is an historic property and dwelling located near Markham, Fauquier County, Virginia, U.S. A part of the John Marshall's Leeds Manor Rural Historic District, it was the boyhood home of Chief Justice John Marshall, and includes the second-oldest dated home in the county. [3]
The district also contains early-20th-century dwellings. Notable buildings include Mountain View (c. 1811), Wolf's Crag (c. 1820), Rosebank (c. 1870), Markham School (1918), the 1819 stone Upper Goose Creek Church, and the former Markham Freight Station (c. 1900). The village was at the north end of the Leeds Manor Turnpike which was incorporated in 1848. The village's center is at the corner of Leeds of Manor Road (Route 688) and Hume Road (Route 635), formerly known as the "Crossroads". At one time, the village had three stores and four blacksmiths, a fourth store existed later.
