  2. How do I determine which wax ring to use under my toilet?

    diy.stackexchange.com/questions/24449

The cone on the bottom of the toilet sets in the cone of the wax seal creating a propor flashing against water intrusion. Using a thick enough wax seal allows for a proper seal against back-ups. I couldn't believe anyone would not use a wax ring with a flange during an installation as a roofer it seems completely idiotic.

  3. By the time you get the wax ring out of the packaging you may as well be the wax ring yourself, your hands pants and body are covered with wax. We've been using a new product called Sani Seal. Really sweet and very reliable. See their web site and videos. Sure each ring is $12, but the toilet seal is worth every penny/dollar.

  4. Although, be aware that with Toto you put a wax ring down and then cover with plastic cover. Toilet then goes on top of that. I.e. wax never touches toilet which I think is different than most brands. I pulled by toilet up and replaced the wax seal. I put it all back together but then noticed small amount of water appearing at front of bowl.

  5. I did got a standard wax ring and mashed it all onto and around the PVC flange and between the metal flange and then took the reinforced wax ring and attached it as normal to the toilet. It worked great and no leaks that I can tell. Best of all my toilet isn't wobbly anymore :) Thank you! –

  6. plumbing - When to replace a toilet's wax ring? - Home...

    diy.stackexchange.com/questions/82323

The newbie toilet ring warning is appropriate here. Place the new ring and set the toilet. Use pressure to push the whole toilet base down to compress the ring. Do not use the toilet mount bolts to apply the pressure to compress the ring - this is a sure way to crack your toilet base. –

  7. Toilet leaks 4-6 months after wax ring replacement

    diy.stackexchange.com/questions/74570

This will allow the opening (horn) at the bottom of the toilet to almost connect snug enough to the floor flange or closet flange. The wax ring seals any gaps that would allow water and gas from exiting the system. Usually a toilet will move because: 1) the bolts have become unsecured from the closet flange.

  8. Why won't toilet flush after replacing wax ring?

    diy.stackexchange.com/questions/75603

Recheck the passage way that runs from the bowl to the horn. There must be an object lodge in there since the toilet flushed properly prior to the wax ring being replaced. Don't remove the toilet from the closet flange just yet. Insert a toilet auger and work the handle. It should advance through the toilet with little effort as it is being turned.

  9. How to ensure the wax seal on my toilet is set properly?

    diy.stackexchange.com/questions/198914/how-to-ensure-the-wax-seal-on-my-toilet...

It was pretty hot that day and the wax was extremely malleable. When setting the toilet, we felt little to no resistance from the wax gasket. Past toilet installs I've done I used an oversized wax ring just to be sure, but my brother insisted on using the wax ring that came with the toilet. I flushed a few times, no leaks appearing anywhere.

  10. How best to ensure old flange seals with new toilet?

    diy.stackexchange.com/.../how-best-to-ensure-old-flange-seals-with-new-toilet

Some swear and stick with wax rings. Others like new fancy stuff. All of them have their pros and cons. In theory, the wax ring should last the lifetime of the toilet, or certainly 20 to 30 years. Here is a good read: WAXLESS TOILET RINGS: AN UNNECESSARY GIMMICK. The key is: The bottom lip of the toilet flange should sit flush with the finished ...

  11. toilet - Toto Unifit Adapter: Renew, Replace, or Reuse? - Home...

    diy.stackexchange.com/questions/248558/toto-unifit-adapter-renew-replace-or-reuse

The adapters come in 10, 12, and 14 inch versions so any toilet can be used with any existing rough-in. A side benefit is that the adapter is installed on the wax ring and you don't have to position the heavy toilet "right the first time" as with wax. I don't think the gasket is replaceable, but that's part of the question. –
