SH 300 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 80 on the west side of Longview, and travels northwest through residential sections of the city. The route continues to the northwest, passing through agricultural sections of southeastern Upshur County before reaching its terminus at U.S. Route 271 and State Highway 155 on the far southern edge of Gilmer.

Gilmer is a city in, and the county seat of, Upshur County, Texas, United States. [4] It is best known for being the home of the East Texas Yamboree and the birthplace of popular music singers Don Henley of the Eagles band and Johnny Mathis , as well as blues musician Freddie King .
A previous route numbered FM 1403 was designated on July 14, 1949, from US 271 south of Gilmer, southeast to the Gregg County line. On May 23, 1951, the road was extended southeast 7.1 miles (11.4 km) to US 80, 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Longview.

On November 16, 1937, SH 154 was extended to Gilmer. [6] On September 26, 1939, it was extended southeast from Gilmer to Marshall along its current route. This extension replaced part of SH 155. [7] On August 24, 1960, the section north of Sulphur Springs was transferred to SH 19.

The highway travels in a slight northwest direction along Estes Parkway for approximately 0.5 miles (0.80 km) before turning to the west, with Estes Parkway continuing north towards LeTourneau University.
