The Haystack Prayer Meeting, held in Williamstown, Massachusetts, in August 1806, is viewed by many scholars as the seminal event for the development of American Protestant missions in the subsequent decades and century. Missions are still supported today by American churches.

E. Virginia Williams (March 12, 1914 – May 8, 1984) was an American professional ballet choreographer, teacher, and founder of the New England Civic Ballet which became the Boston Ballet, the first professional ballet company in New England.
Duncan-Williams notably led the prayer for the incoming President and Vice President of the United States during the 2017 inauguration, becoming the first non-American to do so. [ 2 ] In 2017, Duncan-Williams was recognized by the New African Magazine as one of “The 100 Most Influential Africans". [ 5 ]
