In 1929, the State High School Athletic Association adopted a new name, the Minnesota State High School League, as well as a new vision. The League started accepting non-public schools' applications for admitance in 1974. [5] In 1960, the MSHSL was sanctioned as a non-profit by a Minnesota State Statute. [5]

The first A & AA meets were run at St. Cloud Apollo and the first 3A & 4A State meets were run at Park High School. [1] Later meets were held at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota, until 2006, when the track conditions were too poor to use. Since 2006, the meet has taken place at Stillwater High School.
In 2007, 2008, and 2009, the St. Croix Lutheran High School boys track & field team won the Minnesota True Team State Track and Field championship. [10] St. Anthony won the 2006 and 2008 2A baseball state championships. [ 11 ]
