The following is an incomplete list of wine tasting descriptors and a common meaning of the terms. These terms and usage are from Karen MacNeil's 2001 edition of The Wine Bible unless otherwise noted.
The earliest attested terms referring to wine [citation needed] are the Mycenaean Greek ππΆπΊπππΊ me-tu-wo ne-wo (* μΞθυΟος νΞΟαΏ³), [42] meaning "in (the month)" or "(festival) of the new wine", and πΊππ·π΄π― wo-no-wa-ti-si, [43] meaning "wine garden", written in Linear B inscriptions.
