Burson attended John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio from 1981-85. During his sophomore season, he led the nation in scoring with a 44 points per game average. In his four seasons at John Glenn, he scored 2,958 points earning him the record for most points scored in the history of Ohio high school basketball. [1]
He attended Jameson High School (Missouri) and graduated from William Jewell College in 1967, where he was a four-year-letterman in cross country, basketball and track. He captained in all three sports. As a basketball player, he scored a total of 1,122 points for Jewell and was an All-Conference and All-District selection his senior season.

Hosket is a member of the Ohio State Hall of Fame and was named in 1993 to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Silver Anniversary team. He was honored in 2002 by the Ohio High School Athletic Association with its highest honor – the Ethics and Integrity Award. In 2006, he was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame. [1]
