The Sri Lankan Ordinary Level (O-level) formerly called Senior School Certificate (SSC), is a General Certificate of Education (GCE) qualification in Sri Lanka, conducted by the Department of Examinations of the Ministry of Education. It is based on the Cambridge University Ordinary Level qualification.
Most of the schools in Sri Lanka are maintained by the government as a part of the free education. Currently (as of 2021) there are 10,155 government schools (373 national schools and 9,782 provincial schools) [ 20 ] with a student population of 4.2 million and 235,924 teachers, 736 Pirivenas and also 104 private schools with 127,968 students.

From 1946 to 1954, all classes were conducted in English. In 1955 the medium of education was changed to Sinhalese. In 1960, with the change of government, the Minister of Education reformed the education system, leading Gampola Central College to become a boys-only school, under the new name Wickramabahu Central College.

The Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) (Sinhala: ශ්රී ලංකා පරිපාලන සේවය; śrī laṁkā paripālana sēvaya) is the key administrative service of the Government of Sri Lanka, with civil servants working for both in the Central Government as well as in the provincial councils.
As of 2023 the college was led by Pubudu Rajapakshe, [1] and taught approximately 3,000 students with a staff of over 200 teachers. Students range from Grade 1 to Grade 13 (see Education in Sri Lanka), studying in English, Sinhala and Tamil.
