The lumber supply may have contained wood infected with beetle eggs or larvae, and since beetle life cycles can be one or more years, several years may pass before the presence of beetles becomes noticeable.

[ 8 ] Antennae are usually the same length as or longer than the body, and able to sit in front of, or curve backwards against the body. [ 10 ]

Xyleborinus saxesenii, commonly known as the fruit-tree pinhole borer, is a species of ambrosia beetle in the family Curculionidae. [1] It is native to the Palaearctic region but has been introduced in many locations, including North America. [2] X. saxesenii typically live in freshly dead wood, but it has also been reported to attack live trees.
Some species are parasitic, causing decay in living trees and damaging timber structures such as houses and ships. Wood boring activities occur primarily in the larva stage, with the larvae damaging both sapwood and heartwood. Lymexylidae larvae bore into living and decaying wood where they consume the fungus Alloascoidea hylecoeti. [1] [2]
