In 1825, the Dutch managed to capture Ngawi. To maintain their position in Ngawi, as well as to oversee the trade route along the area, the Dutch East Indies government ordered the construction of a new fort. A location was chosen at the confluence of Bengawan Solo and Madiun River. The fort was finished in 1845 and was named Fort van den Bosch.
Fort Van den Bosh is administratively located in the region Pelem, Ngawi (city), Ngawi. This fort is known to have been built in the mid-19th century. [10] The reason the Dutch colonial government built Fort van den Bosch began when Ngawi was successfully occupied by the Dutch in 1825.
The municipal hall (called Alun-Alun Merdeka) is located in the central part of Ngawi town. Van Den Bosch Fortress is a central historic site of the Ngawi Regency. It is located at the confluence of the two biggest rivers in East Java: the Solo River and the Madiun River.
