From what I have seen it seems that the Ace may be a little bit easier to use with all of its options on the display, but the F22 has the water resistant display, and having the thinner coil could be easier to get in to tighter spaces. The Ace comes with a cover for the display, is that as water resistant as the F22's bare display?
The Garrett AT Pro comes stock with a waterproof 8.5″ x 11″ DD Proformance search coil, which is a great search coil for most metal detecting situations. There is a huge selection of additional search coils that cover a wide variety of metal detecting needs should you want more options.
I've been using my 705 on the dry beach sand only for several years now. Just swinging the coil anywhere close to the wet line it starts to false and chatter. Some will suggest turning the sens way down while others, like me say... get a multi frequency MD made for wet salt beach and water.
Used simplex+ if you can find them. It would be a deeper detecting, better unit than findex pro. Simple enough, water proof and rechargeable batteries. Go no higher than $200. I just snagged one hardly used at all, and it looks new for $138 shipped. Fisher f22. 4AA batteries, water resistant/not water proof. Lightweight, easy and fun.

That having been said many of those posters did like the equinox one they made the transition. As a side note, I’ve also read sufficient complaints about the 600/800 not being entirely waterproof so if you plan to hunt in the water and are still interested in the equinox, I’d suggest the 700/900 instead.
It's a super salt water beach unit and I am sure a darn good relic and gold nugget hunter too. Another plus is the fact that you can change coils. After using the stock DD and the 8 inch mono as well as the 10x14 mono, all I have left is the 10x14 mono and that will never come off.
In general, you'd want a Multi-Frequency machine (as opposed to a Single Frequency machine) for beach hunting. Also, you'd probably one that's waterproof if at the beach, even if you're not diving with it. Lastly, coin/relic hunting not-at-the-beach: for here you'll not care so much about waterproof, but rain-proof is handy.
Both are waterproof to 10 feet - the main detector box, shaft and coil. I use the AT Pro and have never water detected so don't know which headphones to recommend. The Max is like the AT Pro, just hopped up on steroids. I would NOT advise getting a Max, the Pro is far superior in tones, the Max sounds horrid, both have similar capabilities.
Maybe the Scores really will be idiot proof, waterproof and fun to use, much like the Vanquish series but that won't get fried by water, will have decent battery life, can ground balance just about anywhere and unlike the X-Terra Pro, (and the Apex unfortunately) can actually tell the difference between a 4" deep low conductor and a 4" deep ...
