Newark is located in southwestern Kendall County. Illinois Route 71 passes through the village, leading northeast 10 miles (16 km) to Yorkville, the county seat, and southwest 20 miles (32 km) to Ottawa. According to the 2010 census, Newark has a total area of 1.12 square miles (2.90 km 2), all land. [5]

A park district is a form of local special-purpose district for providing public parks and recreation in or near its geographic boundaries. Some park districts also own or maintain related cultural facilities such as monuments, zoos , sports venues, music venues, or museums .
The village is covered by Community Unit School District #2, which is based out of neighboring Serena. The school district was formed by the combination of Sheridan, Serena, and Harding Schools. Currently, Serena High School is the only high school in the district, while there are three elementary schools in the three communities of the district.
Wingert House, part of the Norwood Park Historical District and a Chicago Landmark, constructed in 1854 and expanded between 1868 and 1875. [7] Upon its incorporation the Village of Norwood Park prohibited the sale of alcohol. [4] As of April 2014 there were still eight dry precincts in the community area. [8]
The jewel of the neighborhood is the 311-acre (1.26 km 2) Olmsted Brothers-designed Weequahic Park.This park has a 2.2 miles (3.5 km) rubberized jogging path around its 80-acre (320,000 m 2) lake [7] [8] and Weequahic Golf Course, the oldest public golf course in the United States.
Washington Park is a community area on the South Side of Chicago which includes the 372 acre (1.5 km 2) park of the same name, [2] stretching east-west from Cottage Grove Avenue to the Dan Ryan Expressway, and north-south from 51st Street to 63rd.
